Splash Pad 2011

Another Minnesota post, from back in June:

It was a pretty cool spring in Minnesota, so we only had a brief hiatus of good weather before we moved away. On the second day after the Oak Hill Splash Pad opened, however, it suddenly hit ninety degrees, so off we went! Unlike last year, this time both girls were old enough to play in the water.

Cora could not have been more thrilled:

And Hazel could not have been more annoyed:

The child who would happily throw herself into a snowbank seemed to find all that burbling water on a 90-degree day to be quite an imposition to be endured. She was like a grumpy old man who's been asked to hold his wife's purse on a shopping trip.

She did consent to hold my hand and circle the perimeter of the splash area for a while. When she was tired of that, she was pretty contented to sit on a bench and watch all the action.

Cora, on the other hand, squealed with joy when I told her where we were headed for the afternoon. It was like I'd told her Christmas was coming twice this year. She dove right in when we arrived, and there was much leaping and joyful flapping of the arms the whole time we were there.

Hey, no drinking!

Hazel was much more into going to the regular dry playground next to the splash pad, and happily played there as soon as we could tear Cora away from the water.

The splash pad is one of the things we will most miss about Minnesota.

Thank you! This was so very delightful. The girls couldn't be more different and yet; they are both adorable.

Poor Hazel suffered so much. At least her big sister could really enjoy it.

My two little sweethearts have grown up so much! My but I miss you. Give those little ones a big hug and a kiss from Grandpa, please.
