First Snowfall

The grandparents' visit for Cora's birthday came just in time, because the very next weekend, November 13, we had our first Minnesota snow storm. We'd had a very mild autumn, and earlier in the week I'd still been going outdoors without a jacket if I was just going straight to the car and from the car to the store.

That all ended abruptly, though, as we woke up to winter Saturday morning and got about eight inches of wet, heavy snow throughout the day.

These pictures were taken about noon.

According to the National Weather Service:

-This was the largest pre-Thanksgiving, as well as November snowfall, for the Twin Cities since the "Halloween Blizzard" of October 31-November 2, 1991. [People still talk about that blizzard--Geoff has heard all about it from co-workers.]

-Since 1997, this was only the third six inch or greater official snowfall in the Twin Cities during meteorological autumn (Sept-Nov)

 

Cora was very interested in making footprints.

One of the first things I noticed about our back patio when we took this apartment is that it would allow Cora to safely play in the snow at the same time Hazel was safely warm and snug inside. I remember Cora being this age during winter, and I think the crawling stage might be the least snow-friendly of all the childhood stages.

The snow melted pretty quickly off all paved surfaces, but one week later, the grass is still covered in white.
